What you will learn

This bootcamp is crafted for artists or musicians who write original music, create recordings, or operate in a role that manages recording and will provide you with practical tools that you can implement immediately.

Learn how different revenue streams are generated from a variety of music usages, as well as the most efficient ways to ensure you are collecting royalties, and contracting other parties such as distributors, record labels and music publishers.
How to ensure your music is getting to market efficiently, gaining insight on a range of distribution and release partners, as well as specific needs of different Digital Sales Platforms.
Understand how to use online sources and social media, to create a dynamic and vibrant personality for your music, as well as best practice in delivering marketing campaigns. 
Learn how you can generate interest for your music from traditional sources such as gigs, press and radio, either through your own means, or by working with other music businesses. 

Find out about how music is used for other media, specifically for Film TV & Games. What rights and permissions are needed, and how do you build networks to build these opportunities.

How can you use a variety of methods to connect with audiences and build an audience / consumer base for your business. What techniques can you use to reach out to fans directly, and maximise the financial returns from your music.

I am a producer, mix engineer, sound designer and songwriter. I have worked in the music industry for 25 years and I am the director of independent label and podcaster SUBTXT. He is also director of 4 and North Publishing, which represent songwriters who have co-written with 50 Cent, Timmy Trumpet and Judge Jules.

Some highlights from my career include -  performing at SXSW to supporting The Pixies; producing sets for a Nicki Minaj music video to theatre shows at The Barbican; fundraising, booking and self-releasing music as Magick Mountain.

I am a creative producer and coach with 12+ years of experience in the music industry. I run my own coaching practice supporting artists and freelancers in every corner of the creative industry to find balance, develop their portfolios and overcome barriers to building careers.

I am the founder & director of Music Local and Senior Lecturer in Music at Leeds Beckett University. I am responsible for delivering the Yorkshire-wide talent development program Launchpad, establishing Music:Leeds as a vehicle to support the local music sector, advocating for regional music support across Yorkshire.

Eligibility criteria

To qualify for a completely free bootcamp place, you must: 

  • Be born before 31st August 2004
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Live in West Yorkshire
  • You are creating music or managing someone who is creating music
  • Or writing music for yourself or other people
  • or managing individuals who are writing or recording music
  • Be able to dedicate 15 hours/week
